5/5 - A public service for y'all
Okay, I had a review here, but judging by the responses I got, it may have been inadequate.

Let's try this again...

You All Dat - A funny story-type song (music taken from The Lion Sleeps Tonight). Nicely sentimental and not *too* corny.
Get Ya Party On - *Great* song! A perfect example of what they do the best, lively Miami Bass. (That's what it's called. Miami Bass.) By far my favorite.
Getting Hotter - A very happy, lively, quick-paced ska-esque number. Think "Hot Hot Hot", only far less annoying. :-)
Summer of Love - Just a really pretty Carribean-style love song.
You Can Get It - Ooh, Motown! At least that's what it reminded me of. Highly enjoyable song with a positive message.
It's All in the Mind - More Miami Bass, but with a much more conventional hip-hop sound than Get Ya Party On
Where Did I Go Wrong - The obligatory post-breakup song (a la Back For Good) that actually manages to avoid getting too sappy. Good stuff.
You're Mine - Disco-esque ska. Probably the weakest track (definitely on the repetitive side), although still passable.
What's Up, Come On - Another party track, nice and happy.
Shake It Mamma - And to close it off, an energetic dance number about a sexy lady. What's not to love.

So there you have it. As someone born and raised in Hawaii, I developed a taste for this type of music from an early age, but anyone who's into party music of any kind will love it.

Well, that's all I have to say. Hope it helped.

(Oh yeah, there's also some stadium song of some sort. Eh, whatever. :-D)

4/5 - JUNKANOO! Bahamas meet dancehall
Well people, its to realize there are other countries out there besides the USA and Great Britain that produce music!!! Expand your mind and listen to this group!

For this album, the band of many sounds is much more bass driven and top 40, but they added a good dose of JUNKANOO especially to "Who Let the Dogs Out" and "You All Dat". "Dogs" is in a realm all its own and to review that song is not needed. But is the rest of the album worth it?

I admit it, I am from Florida, and have heard this beat driven style many times. On this album, "She's All Dat" is very infectious, and samples the Tokens ( or Robert John) version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". The song has become an anthem down here, as soon as you here the sample, people move to the floor. The rest of the album is mixed but enjoyable. "Get Yer Party On" is also good, and "Summer of Love" is also well done. This is not a DMX style rap record, but closer to 'Shabba Ranks' or "Shaggy" with a more Caribbean flair. If on sale, you may enjoy it!

What is this Bahamian sound? Its a heavy dose of Jungle Percussion - ISLANDS STYLE, with shakers, drums, ands all sorts of stuff you can't identify. If anyone has been to THE BAHAMAS or MIAMI during Goombay I wouldn't have to explain it. Its a beat sound.

This is not a new band, and has many faces as they changes lead singers often, (luckily the same ones). They write most of their own, and specialize in their older recordings the Island Sound. You may have heard their song "Back to the Island" as the backdrop to the present major Bahamas Tourism TV Add.

If you have a chance check out their early albums "Kalik" and "Junkanoo" which contain a great blend of "ISLAND TOP 40" and Caribbean Rhythms.

I Recommend it is you like something a little different.

1/5 - It finally happened...
I was flipping through channels today when I came across a most interesting newscast. It went something like this:

ANCHORMAN: We go to live to our own Stacey Cornbread, who is live at the local record store with some news about one-hit wonders, the Baha Men. Stacey?

STACEY (at record store, with huge line of 14-year-old kids): Tom, I'm standing here at [local record store], where almost every 14-year-old kid in the county is returning their copy of "Who Let The Dogs Out".

ANCHORMAN: Why do you suppose that is?

STACEY: Well, Tom, it seems that they kids that once liked this ungodly, absymal noisefest have grown up - and out of it.

ANCHORMAN: And only at 14, when most people are at their most vulnerable to "pop" music.

STACEY: That's right. Here now, we will interview this girl. Hello, what is your name?

GIRL IN LINE RETURNING HER COPY: Leslie.

STACEY: Leslie, why are you returning this album?

LESLIE: I just realized how corny, stupid, insipid, dumb, annoying, irritating, and ghastly this album really is.

STACEY: I see. Thank you. (listens to earpiece) Tom, I just recieved word that the RIAA has just certified this album TRIPLE BRONZE - over 3 million copies have been returned! It seems even the young kids who bought into this schlop in 2000 have grown out of it, and hopefully, will discover good music. [Like Radiohead. -ed] Tom, back to you.

TOM: Thank you, Stacey. After the break, can bees think? Studies confirm that no, they cannot.

That says it all.

Avoid.
