5/5 - Five Royale fans & early Soul fanatics - Pick this one up!!
WOW! That was my initial reaction! I've loved The Five Royales for years, but was only familiar with their 1950's R&B material. I never knew they cut these great early soul tracks! From the opening notes of 'Show Me', my jaw dropped!

<br />It seems clear that at this point in their career they were in competition with the early work of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. Hearing Johhny Tanner sing in a more gospelly manner was a revelation!

<br />All I can say is that if you like early 60's soul (Pickett, Burke, James Brown), and are in awe of the magic the Five Royales produced in the 50's, this CD is the missing link of R&B to Soul!
