| CUSTOMER REVIEWS: | 5/5 - an over-looked gem by key & co. maybe the years have shone a different light on this lp, but at the time of its release, it didn't seem to win many skinny puppy fans over. with it's minimalist dub nature, coupled with the fact that this is the first lp to not feature dwayne goettel, it seemed many kinda gave up on download. it seemed people were afraid that platEAU had tainted download's sound. it seemed like people believed with dwayne's passing, he had taken the identifiably "puppy-like" traits of he & key's collaborations with him. but, when one judges the work on its own merits, it is a simple album to slip into. it is probably the most non-threatening work key has embarked upon, filled with alot of pure beauty and simplicity. what we have here is the sound stripped down to very small components. much of the layers of noise and dissonance are gone. the busy rhythmic programming is mostly reduced to simple time-keeping drum parts. in this sheering away of layers, what is unearthed is the raw core of download, and seeing that unadulterated and naked is a true gem in the immense body of key & company's work.
5/5 - Can't pick one as my favorite, because they're all so great! first of all, i love download... cevin key can do no wrong in my opinion so this review is very biased... BUT, this album blows my mind everytime i listen to it... i find something new constantly, and i cannot even begin to understand how he puts all of it together and so perfectly, though i do know quite a bit about music... the times and time changes that key consistently uses are so bizarre they seem impossible, yet somehow the music winds into an overwhelming chaotic state of electronic bliss...and i will never understand why people constantly try to compare download or any other key project to skinny puppy... when are they going to understand, this is not intended to be skinny puppy... this is download... so if you want to listen to skinny puppy, pull out your old albums (which i also love).. but, if you want to hear something more current that's going to blow you away with its intricate twists and layers, you want download, especially III...
5/5 - Another mind-bending offering from Download. Download does it again with another brilliant album, if you are new to Download this is a good album to start with..
Throughout the album there are a large amount of samples and odd sounds, all songs sound different yet flow together with the next one, as the album progresses it goes from abrasive beat-driven songs to more soothing sounds, sometimes incorporating a cello, but then, out of thin air a huge barage of sounds comes out and suprises you..
Most of the songs on this album are of the soundscape variety and have no vocals, there are a large amount (or at least there apears to be a large amount) of samples ranging from horses (Toooly Hooof) to what sounds like exotic birds.. (Cunning.)
III is an album that can question the very fabric of reality and not say a single word, it's sheer brilliance lives within it's beauty, the 30 second clips above cannot possibly give the album justice, in order to fully understand it you must hear the whole album in it's entirety..
If you are thinking about buying this album I would strongly suggest doing so, it is just an excellent album..
