| CUSTOMER REVIEWS: | 3/5 - 3 1/2 stars. Episodic Janet gave her usual producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, a break and called upon the likes of Stargate, Jermaine Dupri, The Dream, Tricky Stewart, Rodney Jerkins, and Neyo. The result? Her tenth studio album entitled "Discipline." This album has its share of up-tempos, mid-tempos and ballads; I usually am biased toward ballads, but the ballads here do not outshine the faster paced tracks, for they are the ones that shine. This is a solid, but episodic offering by the woman who happens to be my favorite entertainer of all time. When comparing the album to her previous works, it is definitely not among her best; "Discipline" doesn't hold a candle nor a flame to "janet.", "Damita Jo", or "Rhythm Nation." Most of the songs are nicely produced, decently written and well arranged. What's truly worth mentioning is the fact that, although Janet is famous for mumbling/slurring her lyrics during songs, she tries her best to articulate and enunciate, and many took noticed and applauded her for that, including me. The only guest appearance is Missy Elliot, who appears on one of the weaker offerings entitled "The One."
The first single was "Feedback", which is definitely one of the best songs on this album. Energy, sass, a great hook, top-notch production, and good lyrics all help to make this song great. Take note of the many undertones within the lyrics. Janet continues her momentum with the sensational "Luv." This song is inundated with percussion, synthesizers and an impressive vocal job by Janet, Miss Jackson if ya' nasty! Speaking of nasty, that adjective could be used to describe her on one or two songs on this album, namely the title track. Janet administers her obligatory "baby making song", but this one has a twist. In "Discipline", Janet orders her lover to "take his frustration out on her", and sings many other unusual sexual overtones in this song. As a warning, those who love her "baby making songs" should enjoy this number, but more musically conservative folk will want to skip this one for its extremely racy and raunchy. "Can't Be Good" is one of her better songs to come out in the past few years. The lyrics are quite profound; they may cause you to laugh and cry simultaneously. There are a few missteps within this album like "The 1", "So Much Betta" and "2 Nite." What really brings these tracks down is the experimental beats and unusual melody Janet is singing in.
If you are in pursuit of an album with great dance tracks and were impressed with her last two offerings ("Damita Jo" and "20 Y.O."), by all means, pick this album up. This isn't the innovative and creative side of Janet, but rather it is the side of Janet prefers to be commercial and stay aligned with her younger contemporaries. 3 and a half stars.

2/5 - I Love Janet but..... this childish sex kitten stuff has got to go! When i listen to Janet's old albums (when her music had depth)I just can't believe how my favorite entertainer has dumbed down her music to appeal to this generation. This album is the worst in her entire career. Even 20 y.o. was better than this! The beats ar pretty good but the lyrics are something i would expect to hear from Ciara and not the legendary Mrs. Jackson. I knew this album was going to be bad when i heard that she dropped Jimmy and Terry as producers and she did not write anything on the album. It pains me t write this review because im the biggest janet fan but i feel like i was ripped off! The only reason i gave this albun two stars is because i like feedback, rock with u, and luv.
5/5 - DISCIPLINE IS AMAZINGLY PRDUCED!!!!!!!!!! I am not sure who these people are who are here giving negative posts on the lady, but maybe they are superbowl leftover losers or just plain haters.........Anyway, I LOVE JANET and she IS BACK and HOTTER THAN EVER!!!! This is an amazing album and you would have to be a mummy wrapped up in so much tape that you just dont' have a rhythmic bone in your body or you just probably can't dance if you don't feel that there are no danceable tracks on this album.............Let's start with FEEDBACK, I love the beat, I love the vocals and i love the video and I understand the video better because the DVD has the director S.A.A.M. who produced the video and explains more about the theme of the video, it was very interesting and way different than most thought!!!! I love the space concept and I am not sure what people want a LEGEND to pull out of their hat who has bascially span over 2 decades and has stood the test of time unlike so many others who have fell clean off the map.
The Album is amazing and yes there are Interludes and I love them because they make you laugh and it's not just your typical boring album that has just song after song and nothing more. "2NITE" is one of my favorite tracks on the album and has a very well crafted Hook that will get anyone who can dance up and dancing and I love the harmonies and they sound amazing on my HD surround system!!!!!!
Can't Be Good is a very Brilliantly written ballad has that MJ quality to its style. The Very provocative main track DISCIPLINE, written by NE-Yo is a a very Sexy track that hints back to "Anytime Anyplace" with a more Aggressive feel. The1 is very hip hop and has Missy with her very smooth rapping style, and Janet sounds great!!!! "So Much Betta" is just a fun track and very club Danceable!!!! LUV is a very nice track as well and I am really starting to feel ROCK WITH U!!!!!!!

I recommend the Album to any fans who know what Dance is about. The DVD has a very interesting look at how Janet shoots the promos and shows her in the studio as well as rehearsing for the Video and also includes the video "FEEDBACK" and the behind the scenes footage.
